How to check the Boot-loader / firmware version inside the motorola phone? Turn off the phone Press * and # together, then use another hand to press power on It should bring u to a "DOS" mode (BLACK SCREEN) First line will give you the boot-loader details (Eg. Boot-loader 0.6.3.6). It is the security protection of the phone (The higher the value, the newer the protection) second line is the firmware / Software version of the phone Eg. E374_xxxxxxxxx.xx (It's the main software of the phone)
How do you know if your motorola phone is locked to networks? Say if you bought your phone from THREE, insert the sim from another network, Eg. Orange. If you are asked to enter a SUBSIDY PASSWORD, then it means your phone is locked and needs to be unlocked so that it can be used on other networks
What is subsidy password ? With Motorola, SUBSIDY PASSWORD is the network lock made by the service provider. It needs to be removed so that the phone can be used on another networks (ALSO known as "UNLOCK"). The subsidy password is unique to each individual phone, so there is NO STANDARD unlock code and at the moment, there is NO code calculator for Motorola (except your service provider does have it) At the moment, the way we unlock / get the subsidy password is by the cable method. The whole process will take 25mins maximum while you wait
